Backed by lush gardens and directly fronting the sea, Po-Lad Beach Bistro & Bar is ideally situated: from your table you can look right onto one of Koh Samui’s most secluded bays. Nights, you can actually dine on the sands themselves, and for a romantic location this is hard to beat, even in the tropics. Po-lad is named after a type of tree with giant spreading branches, and you’ll find a Po-lad tree growing right by the restaurant, adding further charm to the open-air pavilion.
Po-Lad boasts a very fine selection of western and Thai food with separate lunch and dinner menus, both of which offer far more choice than is found in most restaurants. In addition, there’s a vegetarian menu, too, adding to the already numerous possibilities. With such a variety, there are many different delights you could try. For lunch savor Tongsai Vietnamese Rice Rolls, which are filled with lightly seared tuna and salmon, or a simple home-made cheese burger, whilst for dinner grilled sea bass flamed with panaeng curry makes an excellent choice. Meat lovers will appreciate the grilled Australian rib-eye steak, wrapped in tortillas with saut้ mushrooms and chunky home made guacamole. There are plenty of very healthy choices too – something, literally, for everyone.
Po-Lad Beach Bistro & Bar is located at Tongsai Bay, a resort which is well-known as an ecological preserve, and on the grounds it’s possible to see quite a few animals that make their habitat here. The fact that nature is tended and looked after in the resort is reflected in the cuisine itself. Tongsai Bay not only has its own extensive herb garden but the produce is organic, and the results are extremely tasty. Freshness is all-important, and the food served here is of the highest quality. The portions are gratifyingly large, incidentally, and creatively presented. Added to this the service is very attentive and Po-lad comes out with flying colors all round. The restaurant also has its very own bakery and the bread and other goods made here taste heavenly.
Seating is on comfortable chairs, making this a very relaxed dining experience.
A walk-in wine cellar offers wines from both the new and the old worlds, and the range has been selected to make the ideal accompaniments for the dishes. Desserts abound and a varied list of treats awaits those who leave space for them.
