Spice Zone

Snap up a chef who not only used to work full-time for the Thai royal family but also had her own cooking program on TV and let her work on both international and Thai dishes, and what do you get? Spice Zone is an amazing combination of taste and affordability. The restaurant, which is located right by the sea, serves up national and western treats in a cozy yet contemporary atmosphere.
Chef Ajarn Amintra Dinakara Na Ayuthaya has brought to Koh Samui an array of Royal Thai dining treats and you’ll find the tastes are more delicate than is usual. There are more nuances and you can sense there’s a lot of thought that goes into her dishes, whether they’re Thai or international. Feast on aromatic Pad Thai or savor a Korean steak, along with its sauces, or opt for something much simpler, such as a pizza or pasta. Spice Zone naturally supplies the wines to go with your dinner and a range of desserts that go from simple fruit-based dishes to the seriously decadent.
Spice Zone has five different seating areas: choose a table right on the beach itself, or stepping back, dine on the lawn overlooking the swimming pool and rock grotto (check out the latter – unique on Koh Samui), or going back further, a more formal dining room. But the big surprise here has to be the two very separate and decidedly romantic second-floor salas which each accommodate just one table. Ideal for couples? Absolutely – they both manage to be secluded whilst having great views out to the sea.
A newcomer to the Choeng Mon beach, the restaurant is part and parcel of Muang Samui Villas – look out for its iconic tower as you head along the Choeng Mon road. It’s open all day, starts with breakfast before moving on to lightish lunches with sunset cocktails and then evening dining. You’ll also find both a vegetarian and a children’s menu.
Spice Zone has a relaxed atmosphere, great food and drinks yet remains entirely unpretentious. Even if you’re not based in Choeng Mon, it’s definitely worth a visit or three.
